Sambalpur: Three Years Since Approval; When Will DHH Get CT Scan Services?

Demand for MRI Machine Also From Local Residents
Room Construction Completed, It will be installed Soon: CDMO

Sambalpur: A few days ago, a woman named Sabita had an accident in the Ainthapali area. She sustained head injuries and was taken to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The doctor, seeing her condition, recommended immediate transfer as a CT scan was needed for further treatment. She was then transferred to Burla. This is not an isolated incident; hundreds of patients come to DHH and leave disappointed due to the lack of a CT scan machine.

Late Minister Nabakishore Das had approved a CT scan machine for Sambalpur DHH when he was the Health Minister. However, due to administrative negligence, there was a delay in its installation. After Das’s passing, the topic of installing the CT scan machine was also forgotten. It has been almost three years since approval. As a result, hundreds of people are facing significant inconveniences and unnecessary expenses. Social worker Mukesh Jariwal has stated that people in Sambalpur prefer to rely on DHH rather than travel to Burla Vimsar. Most people who visit Vimsar come from outside the district. If DHH had a CT scan facility, the residents of Sambalpur wouldn’t need to travel to Burla, and the patient load at Vimsar would decrease, benefiting patients from other districts. The reason for the delay remains unclear. Now with the new government in place, there is hope that the people of Sambalpur will soon see this issue resolved.

Due to the lack of MRI facilities at Burla Vimsar, people are forced to rely on private clinics. There has been a long-standing demand to install an MRI machine at both Vimsar and DHH. However, considering the situation where even the CT scan machine hasn’t been installed, the possibility of getting an MRI machine seems far-fetched. Nevertheless, the district health department has been asked to submit a proposal. The CDMO has mentioned that all preparations for the CT scan are complete, and the construction of the room where the machine will be installed is nearly finished. Therefore, the CT scan machine will be installed at DHH very soon, and people will benefit from this facility. However, the exact date of installation is still unknown. Regarding the MRI machine, the CDMO has said that a proposal for an MRI machine for DHH will be submitted soon, and it is expected to be installed shortly thereafter. This will eliminate the need for Sambalpur residents to travel to Burla Vimsar.
