Traffic Violators to Receive Instant E-Challan via Phone

Sambalpur: Sambalpur is set to enhance its traffic enforcement system with the installation of 207 AI-powered cameras at 52 locations across the city. From April 1, anyone violating traffic rules will instantly receive an e-challan on their mobile phone and must pay the fine at the traffic police office. The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) and police department have signed an agreement to implement this system. With this, Sambalpur will become the fifth city in Odisha to introduce the One Nation, One Challan system.

Advanced Surveillance System for Traffic Management

To improve road safety and traffic monitoring, SMC is implementing an integrated traffic management system with AI-powered cameras at a cost of Rs. 4.96 crore in the first phase. These advanced cameras, including bullet cameras, facial recognition cameras, PTZ cameras, and ALPR cameras, will efficiently regulate traffic and integrate with the central government’s traffic violation monitoring system for stricter enforcement.

Unified Command and Control Center for Traffic Monitoring

The district police headquarters will establish a Unified Command and Control Center to oversee the city’s traffic. The authorities will set up satellite centers at the SMC office and RTO office. The cameras will monitor major intersections, and the command center will remotely control traffic signals.

Enhanced Security and Monitoring

The high-resolution AI cameras will record all activities of commuters and vehicle drivers. These cameras will not only identify drivers’ faces but also track vehicle registration numbers and access the driver’s complete records.

Launch on April 1

MSVL Assess India company will officially launch the new system on April 1, Odisha Day. The company will manage this system. They previously implemented this system successfully in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Keonjhar, and Angul.

With these advanced AI-powered cameras, Sambalpur’s traffic management and road safety are expected to improve significantly, reducing traffic violations and ensuring better law enforcement.
