Sambalpur: Today is Sacred Mahalaya, Maa Samalswari will give darshan to the devotees in a ‘Dhabalamukhi Besha’
Sambalpur: Today is Mahalaya. Sacred Mahalaya has brought interest and excitement to people’s minds. Seeing Maa Samaleswari on this day brings merit like the Ganga Bath. Holy Mahalaya falls on Amavasya Tithi in the month of Ashwin. Throughout the year, Maa Samaleishwari appears with the vermilion of Gauri’s color. This is called Sindur Mukh Besha.
But on only one day in the year, in the month of Ashwin, Amavasya Mahalaya Tithi, Maa appears in her white form (ଧବଳମୁଖୀ ବେଶ). Auspiciousness is seen in the face area.
Many white materials such as conch, tilak, sandalwood etc. are used in this. Among the flowers such as Shwetapadma, Malli fula, Togar etc. On that day too, at night, the goddess is bathed in Ganga water mixed with Corpur and decorated with various types of masks.
