Sambalpur: Today is the famous Makara Yatra of Bamra
Gadposh/Bamra: Makara Mela is going to be held on Saturday at Bamra Block Mahkuma. The fair will be launched from the Sri Sri Dhabaleshwar Shiva temple in Kechhapani village of Uchikapat Panchayat. Lord Mahaprabhu will reach the Gobindpur Makara Yatra area by crossing the 8 km road through Nunyamunda, Dumermunda, Bamra Basti, Bus Stand, Block Street, Gundicha Temple in a well-equipped chariot. Devotees will join the procession from 10 am and pull the chariot. It will involve community congregations from various villages, kirana congregations and Krishnaguru teams, including bell instruments, duldulis, tribal Kisan dances. Later, from Bamra Jagannath temple, Lord Hari Mahaprabhu will arrive at the fair ground in the form of Lord Jagannath Madan Mohan. After the meeting of Hariha, the devotees will sit on Makar. As the journey will last for 7 days, Bamra is fully festive. Every day there will be a meeting of thousands of devotees. Along with this, the fair also has a good holiday for traders. Traders from various districts of Odisha including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh participate in this fair. More than fifteen hundred stalls have been arranged for this. All preparations have been made by the Ambulance team including police, electricity, fire department. GRP and RPF have been issued by the railway department to control the crowd at railway stations. The committee has given a written notice to DRM to increase the stay time of all trains at Bamra station to cope with the crowd. On this occasion, all the preparations have been finalized by the committee as cultural programs are scheduled to be held every evening. Durga Prasad Mishra, president of the committee, who completed 100 years of the historic Bamra Makar Yatra this year, informed that a cricket and football competition was organized last December. On the 8th of this month, a competition was organized in Bamra TF College in three categories: singing, signature, debate and drawing. 782 contestants from 60 schools participated in it. Similarly, on the 9th, a torch procession started from the Jagannath temple and went around the city. 1290 people participated in the marathon organized on 10th. 625 people managed to complete the 16 km marathon. The committee has informed us that various cultural programs and competitions will be held from 14th to 20th.
