Sambalpur: The Dhuchurapada-Kachheri Street flyover built in Sambalpur city is going to be inaugurated today. Former minister Prafulla Mallik will inaugurate it at 4 pm on Friday. Besides, local public representatives will be present. The flyover and bridge work, which has been going on for 6 and a half years, has not been completed yet. Controversy has arisen sometimes over the original design and sometimes over the height and sometimes, a controversial situation has arisen regarding the work and incidents of the construction company and sometimes public dissatisfaction has been expressed regarding land acquisition for service roads, construction of service roads and side drains. Now the residents of the city are worried because there is no rain water drainage system. There is a demand for early rainwater drainage system. Since the beginning of the plan till today, there is controversy over the opening of this flyover, which has been surround by controversies on different issues at different times. After the launch on Friday, the Western Unity Forum has demanded that the remaining work be completed within a month and the flyover dispute be settled.

Bhavani Shankar Bhoi, host of the forum, and Manas Ranjan Baxi, chief coordinator, said in a joint press release, “This flyover, which was built to solve the traffic problem, should be looked at so that it does not become deadly in the coming days.” A demand has been made to widen the service road near Aurobinda School and Ashapali School. Along with this, Gujarati Colony and its surrounding areas have also been demanded to have an access road so that ambulances can travel in case of emergency. It has been demanded that the arrangement of divide from the flyover landing area to the church at Duchurapada, service road on both sides of the flyover and adjacent drain works, rainwater drainage work from the flyover bridge should be completed as soon as possible. However, even after the flyover is inaugurated, the necessary related work will continue and the water drainage system will be done soon, said the district inspector.
