Sambalpur: Tomato is emptying people’s pocket
Sambalpur: As the prices of various goods have skyrocketed, it has included another essential commodity. Everyone’s favorite tomato is now hitting 70. On Friday, the price of tomatoes in the Sambalpur market was around Rs 60 per kg. Some profitable traders called the quality tomatoes 70,80 rs per kg. This is important for all families. Roasted tomatoes are also important for ordinary and poor people in the dry season. In that sense, it is possible to buy tomatoes for Rs 60 from the beginning of May. It is expected to continue to rise as the drought intensifies. Traders have openly said that it will reach Rs 100 by the end of May. On summer day, tomato prices rise every year. So most of the time it is in the 40’s and from 50 to 60 at the last of the days.
However, this time around, touching the price of 60 is a concern for ordinary consumers. Currently, tomatoes are coming to Sambalpur market mainly from Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Some local farmers are also producing. According to sources, there is no problem with supply. Enough supplys are coming. However, due to the profitable attitude of the traders at all levels, the price has risen unreasonably.
According to retailers, the price of a tomato in Sambalpur Pariba Mandi was Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,100 per 25 kg on Friday. So with a profit of Rs 10, they are selling at Rs 60. They said the second-grade tomatoes were also being sold for Rs 50. Almost all traders said the price would rise further in the coming days.
