Sambalpur: Transfer of Law College Fund to University Incident, Case filed against Prof. Sanjiv Mittal

Sambalpur: A case has been filed against the former chancellor of Sambalpur University Prof. Sanjiv Mittal. In the case of the illegal transfer of funds of LR Law College, Dhanupali Police have registered a case against Professor Mittal, College Dean Dr. GS Sharma, and the Chancellor of the University and have started an investigation. A student pays 25 thousand per annum for a self-financing course at Lajpat Rai Law College. Over the years, the money collected from the students was kept in an account of the law college and more than one crore was deposited in the account of LR Law College which was managed by the college authorities.

Professor Sanjiv Mittal has always been pressuring the chairperson to transfer that share from the college fund to the university fund. The Dean transferred 62 lakh 67 thousand rupees from the college fund to the university fund. There was a criminal conspiracy to defraud the Lajpat Rai Law College of its own funds. Therefore, the chancellor of the university, the Dean of Law College, and the registrar of the university were involved in this criminal conspiracy. On May 17, 2022, Law College’s old students’ union president Satyanarayan Panda, and secretary Durga Padhi filed a complaint at the Dhanupali police station.

Even after the written complaint, the case was not filed against them. In such a situation, Durga Padhi, the secretary of the old students’ union, appeared at the High Court, after considering Mr. Padhi’s appeal, the Hon’ble High Court ordered the Sambalpur SP to take a decision within 4 weeks after receiving the copy. The case (Case No-439/2023) has been filed and the investigation has started.

It is worth mentioning that Sambalpur University Professor Mittal was in controversy when he was working as the chancellor. A case was filed against him in the suicide case of Dinbandhu Mishra, a retired employee of the university. However, he was forced to return the money to the university fund after the small school campaign fund was transferred to his family’s account. He was forced to resign from the post of chancellor in the midst of controversy.
