Sambalpur: Chepti Bridge Left Half-Finished for Over 2 Years; Questions Raised on PWD

Chepti Bridge Stuck for Over Two Years

Sambalpur: In Sambalpur, the construction of the Chepti Bridge has been dragging on for more than two years. Although the concrete bridge is almost ready, the connecting roads are still unfinished. Only in a few spots has the Public Works Department (PWD) laid down some soil to allow two-wheelers to pass and even that happened only after local residents forced action.

Work Started but Never Finished

The bridge work began in April 2023 and was supposed to take just three months. However, even today, the project remains incomplete. As a result, locals are increasingly frustrated and angry. This is not the only case; several PWD projects in the area start but never finish, leaving half-done work everywhere.

Abandoned Roads Add to the Trouble

The roads from Jail Chowk to Dhanupali and from Ainthapali to Fatak are also in a similar condition, half-built and abandoned. Although some areas have received bitumen and some dividers have been constructed, most parts remain unfinished. Despite work starting nearly seven years ago, the Dhanupali road is still incomplete.

Drainage Work Also Left Halfway

Furthermore, the road was supposed to include drainage systems, but that work has also been left halfway. Even near the PWD Division-2 office at Jail Chowk, the road remains unfinished.

No Action Despite Complaints

Locals have raised complaints several times, but unfortunately, the PWD has neither taken proper action nor provided any solutions. Even after contacting the executive engineer about the delays and irregularities, there has been no response.
