According to Dr. Mahendra Prasad Behera, Deputy Secretary of CHSE (Council of Higher Secondary Education) Sambalpur Zone, there are many reasons behind the remaining vacant seats, such as the campus environment of the educational institutions, the teaching environment, and lack of interesting programs. As many students want to enroll in good colleges, seats are left vacant in some colleges. Some colleges are not preferred by the students even after considering the tuition fees and the college’s results. Lack of labs and poor college results is a major reason behind Sambalpur having the highest number of vacant seats in the science stream. Many science colleges do not have good labs, so students cannot perform practicals properly. That is why many seats cannot be filled, said Behera.
