Sambalpur: Where is the pain for the Mahanadi river ?

Sambalpur: The lifeline of Odisha is the Mahanadi. Chhattisgarh is full of available water but on the Odisha side, the river is now dry. While the livelihoods of the people of Odisha depend on the river, it has become a party issue for political parties during elections. The ruling BJP in the Center and Chhattisgarh a few days ago targeted the state’s ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, but now the opposite has happened. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today sharply criticized both the BJD and the Congress over the Mahanadi issue. “If there is no water in the river, it will be terrible,” he said. The Chhattisgarh government has built several barrages on the upper reaches of the Hirakud Reservoir. The Chhattisgarh government is now in full control of the ever-flowing river. A few years ago, a public outcry erupted over the issue and state politics was also on the rise.

It has been four years since the tribunal was set up to resolve the dispute. The dispute has not been resolved. It is unknown when the problem was solved. Recently, along with Sudarshan Das, a supporter of the Mahanadi Banchao Andolan, Dr. Rajendra Singh has traveled the river from Cuttack to Kalma and refreshed the theme. Although senior Congress and BJD leaders camped in Brajrajnagar for the by-elections, all remained silent, while Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today targeted them. In Chhattisgarh, there is now a Congress government, and now they are silent. The BJP is silent. Where there is a vested interest in Odisha, all parties must come together. In all these respects, the voice of Odisha should be united. In Odisha, the river’s catchment capacity should be increased. “If there is no water in the river, it will be terrible,” he said
