Sambalpur: Will MLA Jayanarayan Mishra’s arrest tradition change?
Sambalpur: Jayanarayan Mishra who was elected MLA from Sambalpur 4 times. Now, after the opposition leader has resigned, a different question has arisen in everyone’s mind. Sri Mishra, who was facing preliminary arrest during the Chief Minister’s visit, will now be arrested under the same circumstances or not? This question is not only in the minds of the general public but also in the minds of the political workers and leaders of all parties including the BJP. After a long gap of 70 years, Sambalpur district has got the position of opposition leader.
Sri Mishra, who has always been in the limelight due to his aggressive political attitude, has got this importance. His voice against the state government is always strong. For this, during the visit of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to Sambalpur district, Sri Mishra was arrested in advance. Interestingly, on the one hand, he is invited as a guest of honor as a local MLA in the official programs of the Chief Minister. On the other hand, the police administration arrests the Chief Minister in advance to ensure that no untoward situation arises during his visit.
This process starts from the night before the Chief Minister’s visit program and after he returned to the capital from Sambalpur district, then Sri Mishra was free. After being elected as the leader of the opposition recently, Sri Mishra in his response to the media said that on the one hand he would play a constructive role, while on the other hand he suggested that a vigorous campaign would be launched to oust the BJD from Odisha. It is clear from his comments that his anti-government charge will remain in force in this context. Now the question arises, what will be the attitude of the government, the ruling party and the administration towards Sri Mishra after being in the constitutional position as the leader of the opposition party? That is, during the visit of the Chief Minister, he will be arrested in advance or not?
It is worth noting that in 2019, with the great defeat of the Congress, the BJP was able to get the recognition of the main opposition party as the second largest opposition party. West Odisha had a big contribution in this success of BJP. At that time, it was rumored that the post of leader of the opposition would be given to Sri Mishra. But, instead of him, the party chose Bhavanipatna MLA Pradeept Naik as the leader of the opposition. BJP has now given this responsibility to Mr. Mishra after the absence of the leader of the opposition in the assembly due to Mr. Naik’s long-term illness.
