Sambalpur: Sambalpur Witnesses Peaceful Immersion; Bids Farewell to Ma Durga After Ten Days of Celebration
Sambalpur: After ten days of worship, Ma Durga gave her blessings and was immersed. The procession moved through the streets, accompanied by the sounds of bells, conch shells, and traditional folk performances by Western Odisha artists, as the goddess bid farewell. Ma Durga was immersed after being worshipped at the Kalibari Mandap. Yesterday, processions for Ma Durga’s immersion were held in various pandals throughout Sambalpur, including Govindtola, Jail Chowk, Zilla School Chowk, Sakhipada, Badabazaar Bangalipada, Fatak, Kansaripada, Lakshmi Talkies, and Thelkopada.

Peaceful Immersion with No Incidents
According to SDPO Tofan Bag of Sambalpur, the immersion ceremonies were peaceful, with no incidents. According to information provided by the Govindtola Committee, over one lakh devotees attended Ma Bhuvaneshwari’s farewell ceremony. The procession began at Govindtola Chowk and continued through Dhanupali to the immersion ghat at Haradjor in Govindtola, where the goddess was immersed.
Traditional Instruments and Cultural Highlights
Other committees led processions from their respective locations, with devotees bidding farewell to the goddess. The processions included traditional folk instruments such as the Chhattisgarh and Bilaspur dhol dhamaal, Punjabi dhol from Anugul, dul-duli from Barpali, bells from Ainlapali, conch shells from Maneswar, and dul-duli from Ainlapali. The fireworks display was another high point of the immersion procession.
Traffic and Police Deployment
To ensure peace and order, police were deployed at various locations. However, traffic problems were observed due to the processions passing through the city.
