Sambalpur: Scorching Heat in October; Life Becomes Unbearable, Sambalpur Records Hottest Temperatures in the State
Sambalpur: The monsoon season has ended, and the Durga Puja celebrations are over. People expect cooler weather as the city prepares to welcome Maa Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth, during the Kartika month. However, rather than experiencing winter, Sambalpur is experiencing a scorching heatwave, making life unbearable for residents. The intense heat has become so oppressive that going outside feels like walking into an oven. The city streets become deserted in the afternoon because the oppressive heat forces people to stay indoors.
Winter Fails to Arrive on Time
Durga Puja usually brings with it a cool breeze. However, despite the start of Kartika, the long-awaited winter has yet to arrive. Instead, the intense heat has caught everyone off guard, making Sambalpur residents uncomfortable. The heat is so intense that even a short trip outside feels like your body is burning in the sun.

Sambalpur Tops the Temperature Charts
Sambalpur, which experienced extreme heat during the summer, is once again dealing with high temperatures. Currently, it is one of the most popular cities in the state. The temperature today was 36.7°C. Over the last four days, the mercury has consistently risen above 35°C. On October 14, the city recorded 35.2°C, followed by 35.4°C on October 15, 34.8°C on October 16, and 36.5°C on October 17th.
Experts Express Concern Over Environmental Impact
Environmentalists are becoming more concerned about the consequences of deforestation and industrial pollution. According to environmentalist Subrat Nath, widespread tree-cutting for urban expansion is reducing green cover and contributing to rising temperatures. The spread of factories and the emission of toxic gases are also affecting the ozone layer, allowing direct sunlight to reach the ground. This is causing not only extreme heat but also a variety of skin disorders. Nath warns that if immediate steps are not taken to restore environmental balance, Sambalpur may experience even more severe heat waves this summer.
Unbearable Heat Despite Winter Expectations
Despite expectations of cooler weather at this time of year, Sambalpur residents are experiencing summer-like temperatures. People are concerned about the unusual weather pattern, and experts believe climate change is a major contributing factor to this unprecedented heatwave. If environmental regulations are not enforced, the city may face harsher conditions in the future.
