Sambalpur: SMC Bulldozer Demolishes Old Police Outpost, Discovers Alcohol Stash and Demolishes 12 Shops

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished an old, unused police outpost today that had become a hideout for antisocial elements. During the demolition, a large number of empty liquor bottles and cough syrup bottles were discovered, surprising the workers. According to SMC Enforcement Officer Sushant Sahu, construction materials, including timber, belonging to a contractor, were discovered inside the outpost.

Abandoned Police Outpost Becomes Hangout for Anti-Socials

Town planning officer Ranjan Biswal confirmed that the old police outpost had been lying abandoned for a long time and had turned into a spot for miscreants. A proposal has already been made to build a new cabin in its place.

Encroachment Cleared from GM University Road

According to SMC officials, the road stretching from Church Chhak to GM University Gate had been encroached upon by unauthorized shops, causing the road to narrow and create traffic issues. Several people had set up shops there, and some had even piled soil from two highways to mark their territory. According to earlier announcements, the SMC, accompanied by police, began clearing the encroachments around 7:30 a.m. The operation, which lasted until 1:30 PM, saw the demolition of one shop after another.

Shops Demolished, Traffic Relief Expected

A total of 12 shops, including fast food restaurants, mattress stores, and tea stalls near the old police station in Church Chhak, were demolished. The SMC believes that this operation will clear the 20-foot-wide road and resolve traffic issues for students and commuters.

Local Residents Complained About Anti-Social Activities

Residents had frequently complained about anti-social behavior at the old police station, particularly in the evening. In response to the complaints, SMC demolished the post. Future plans for the area are still being discussed, with potential construction projects on the horizon.

Encroachment-Free Zones in Busy City Areas

Enforcement officials stated that all encroachments in the city’s busiest areas will be removed, and unauthorized shops will be taken down. Similar demolitions are expected to take place in other parts of the city in the coming days to ensure public roads are free from encroachment.
