Sambalpur: SMC’s Complaint Hearing Begins Every Monday; Roads, Drains, and Cleanliness Top Issues
Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) has resumed the public grievance hearing program. Starting this month, SMC will hold these sessions on Mondays at various locations, ensuring a dedicated space for addressing public concerns. Senior officials from the Municipal Corporation will attend these sessions, listening to residents’ concerns and working to resolve them.
Today, the fourth Monday, a special grievance hearing was held at the old Municipal Corporation offices. The Commissioner, Bejbhushan, Deputy Commissioner Shankar Sahu, and all department heads were present. During the session, residents filed seven complaints, all dealing with road and drainage issues. After hearing these complaints, SMC assured that they would take the necessary steps to resolve the issues.

Resumption of Public Hearings
A few months ago, SMC held public grievance hearings in various locations. However, due to the elections and the resulting intense heatwave, these sessions were temporarily suspended. SMC has now restarted the program, with a specific schedule for these hearings. Hearings will take place on the first and fifth Mondays of each month at the Municipal Corporation office in Durga Pali. The sessions will begin at 10:30 a.m. The authorities will hold hearings at different locations on subsequent Mondays as follows:
- On the second Monday, they will conduct the hearing at the Burla office.
- On the third Monday, they will hold the hearing at the Hirakud office.
- On the fourth Monday, they will convene the hearing at the old Municipal Corporation office.
All these hearings will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Major Issues: Roads, Drains, and Cleanliness
The Municipal Corporation’s most pressing issues right now are related to roads, drains, and cleanliness. Residents have repeatedly expressed their concerns, but there is widespread dissatisfaction with the lack of resolution. The lack of coordination among various departments has exacerbated the situation, resulting in potholes on most of Sambalpur’s roads. Intellectual circles voice growing concern about the successful implementation of the master plan created to address the increasingly complex drainage issues. Despite steps already taken, skepticism persists regarding the plan’s execution and ultimate effectiveness.
Similarly, cleanliness issues have reached a critical point, and there is a strong demand from the public for immediate and appropriate action.
