Sambalpur: Statue of Satyanarayan Bahidar Installed, To be Unveiled on ‘Sambalpuri Day’
Sambalpur: Sambalpuri enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly preparing to celebrate ‘Sambalpuri Day’ with great fervor on August 1, marking the birth anniversary of Guru Satya Narayan Bahidar, a stalwart of Sambalpuri language, literature, and culture. Various organizations, including Paschimanchal Ekata Manch, are marking the occasion with unique programs.
Lack of Permanent Memorial
Despite Guru Satya Narayan Bahidar’s lifelong dedication to Sambalpuri literature, there has been no permanent memorial in Sambalpur to honor his legacy. Moreover, a statue in his honor had not been erected until now.

Decision to Erect the Statue
In 2018, Paschimanchal Ekata Manch decided to erect a full-sized statue of Satyanarayan Bahidar. With the cooperation of his former students and Sambalpuri lovers, artists crafted the statue in Bhubaneswar and have now transported it to Sambalpur.
Installation and Unveiling Plans
Workers have installed the statue today at Satyanarayan Park near Jail Chowk. Organizers plan to unveil the statue during this year’s Sambalpuri Day celebration. Dr. Pramod Rath, advisor of Paschimanchal Ekata Manch and a senior advocate, announced this significant development.
Prominent Figures in Attendance
Many prominent figures were present at the installation, including senior journalist Subhash Panigrahi, advocates Ravi Pujari and Kishore Dharey, Rahul Modak, Subodh Dora, Lalit Bebarsha, Debashish Behera, Rajesh Swaim, Rahul Gupta, Amitabh Majhi, Nishikant Biswal, Bhavanis Bhoy, and chief coordinator Manas Ranjan Baksi.
