Sambalpur: A lawyer attempted to assassinate his brother-in-law and his father-in-law in broad daylight on Monday. Brother-in-law was seriously injured, while her father-in-law and a few pedestrians were slightly escapes from the accident. However, his car collided with Sambalpur SP residence and the boundary wall is broken.
Such a scandal of a lawyer has been condemned from all quarters, centering on the ongoing quarrel between husband and wife. The lawyer was Panchanan Das, a resident of Burla PHD-BMC Colony. He was arrested by Sambalpur Town Police and suspended by the District Attorney’s Association.
According to reports, Panchanan and his wife Chinmayi Mohapatra have been at loggerheads for some time. Chinmayi Burla, who now lives in her father’s house in Talcher, wanted to come to Burla for her children, who is studying at DAV School. However, Panchanan threatened him and came to Sambalpur on Monday with his father Ramchandra Mohapatra and cousin Soumya Ranjan Das to discuss the matter with the president of the Bar Association. Sureshwar Mishra, president of the Bar Association, who is busy with work, asked to meet at 12 noon. So they were waiting near the SP office (Kacheri Square). Upon learning of this, Panchanan planned to drive the car (OD14M 0344) and kill them.
At around 12 noon, he drove to Kacheri Square and tried to hit his father-in-law in front of the SP office. But he escapes slightly. A motorcyclist passing by was injured. Then Panchanan again drove the car at high speed and hit Soumya Ranjan, who was standing by the side of the road at the residence of the SP of Kacheri Square. The collision was so severe that the wall of the SP’s residence was demolished. Soumya Ranjan fell on the side of the wall and was seriously injured. A bike parked on the side of the wall has also been smashed. Panchanan’s wife, Chinmayi Mohapatra, had lodged a complaint with the Town Police Station. Following the allegations, the police registered a case no 274/2022 under Section 307, 506 of the IPC and arrested Panchanan.
Panchanan, on the other hand, was trying to escape after hitting the car. Public present grabbed him and beat him severely. He fell to the ground in the crowd. Then he applied trick and escapes and broke into the lawayers’ union office. He lied that some people beat him. Hearing this, some members of the Bar Association ran to the scene. Upon learning of the incident, that he was driving and trying to kill his brother-in-law and father-in-law. Panchanan was later handed over to the Town Police Station by the Bar Association.
