Sambalpur: Third Crime in a Month; Unnatural Death of a Young Man in Thelkopada, Police Suspected Corex Syndicate Link

Body Found in Abandoned House

Sambalpur: In Sambalpur, near the old market complex close to the fire department, police recovered the blood-soaked body of a 35-year-old man named Shiva Gardia from Thelkopada. Locals informed the police this morning, leading to the recovery. Shiva, who had been estranged from his family, had been living in the abandoned house for a long time. His belongings, including a cot, were found there. Police suspect he may have accidentally fallen from the roof, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report, according to Sambalpur SDPO Tofan Bag.

History of Violence in Thelkopada

In recent weeks, Thelkopada has witnessed a number of violent incidents. Ten days ago, a murder occurred as a result of a long-running feud. Sony Shandha, a local, attacked Sakhipada resident Chaman Behera with a knife. In retaliation, Chaman’s family allegedly beat Sony to death. Similarly, on October 22, a woman named Lalita Devi of Sahu Colony was stabbed to death.

With such incidents happening frequently, Shiva’s death has also raised suspicions. People question whether it was an accident or foul play.

Involvement in the Corex Syndicate

Shiva’s death has sparked further debate about the ongoing Corex (a cough syrup) syndicate. The syndicate has been under scrutiny due to increasing threats against local vendors selling it. If Shiva was involved in this illegal trade, it might have made him a target.

Shiva’s Troubled Past

Shiva had a criminal record, including cases of petty theft such as stealing bicycles. He had even served jail time. Moreover, his regular substance abuse had strained his relationship with his family, who no longer supported him.

Just a day before his death, Shiva reportedly got into an argument over a stolen mobile phone. Police intervened and provided him with medical treatment after the fight. Although some suspect he may have been attacked later, police found no major injuries on his body, except minor bruises on his face.

Evidence and Ongoing Investigation

Police noticed Shiva’s slippers and clothes were still on the roof, suggesting he might have fallen accidentally. However, the lack of a protective barrier on the roof makes the situation unclear. The exact cause of death—whether murder or accident—will only be confirmed after the autopsy report.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the truth.
