Sambalpur: Traffic Congestion Persists at Major Commercial Hub Khetrajpur; Heavy Vehicle Drivers Violate Regulations, Residents Frustrated

Sambalpur: Khetrajpur, a key commercial area not only for Sambalpur city but also for all of Western Odisha, faces regular traffic congestion. Every day, hundreds of heavy vehicles carrying various goods enter this area. Since the roads are narrow, traffic jams have become a daily problem.

Overbridge Fails to Solve the Problem

Earlier, a railway level crossing in the area was the main reason for frequent traffic jams. To solve this, an overbridge was constructed a few years ago. However, despite this development, the traffic situation has not improved.

Narrow Roads and Unregulated Parking Worsen the Situation

Traffic jams occur mostly in the morning and evening hours. The main road is narrow, and heavy vehicles stop along the roadside to load and unload goods at various commercial establishments. Since this road is one of the main entry points to Sambalpur city, the congestion creates daily inconvenience for commuters.

Previous Attempts at Regulation Failed

Due to long-standing complaints, the authorities had earlier set a fixed time for the entry of heavy vehicles into the area. However, most drivers now ignore this rule. Heavy trucks continue to enter Khetrajpur throughout the day and night, park along the road, and unload goods, leading to traffic blockages.

Local People Demand Strict Time Management

Residents say that if the vehicle movement is strictly managed and allowed only during set hours, then both business operations and public travel can continue smoothly without disturbance.

Public Questions Lack of Traffic Enforcement

Although traffic personnel are deployed regularly, locals question how heavy vehicles still manage to enter the area unchecked and create traffic jams every day.

Traffic Officer Promises Action

Devendra Nayak, the newly appointed Traffic Officer, said, “I have just taken charge. Necessary steps will be taken soon to resolve the traffic problem.”
