Sambalpur: Tragic Accident in Sambalpur; Two Workers Dead, Six Injured in Trailer-Pickup Collision

Sambalpur: In Sambalpur, around 7 PM today, a tragic road accident took place near Kudopali under Sambalpur Sadar Police Station, claiming the lives of two laborers and injuring six others. According to information received, some laborers from Rayagada have been working under a contractor on a railway culvert project near Kenghati for the past two days.

Details of the Incident

The laborers had traveled to Sindurpank market in a pickup truck (AP 39TA-0481) to shop, with a total of nine workers onboard. While returning, a speeding trailer truck (WB 23E-3309) heading towards Deogarh collided with the pickup near Kudopali on National Highway 53. The impact was severe, leading to the death of one worker on the spot.

Emergency Response and Further Developments

The local Sadar Police quickly arrived at the accident site, rescuing the injured and transporting them to the District Headquarters Hospital. Unfortunately, while receiving treatment, another laborer succumbed to his injuries. Among the injured were Manoj Majhi, Pavitra Majhi, Pintu Yadav, Krishna Majhi, Madan Majhi, Jogeshwar Majhi, and Lokesh Upad.

Current Condition of the Injured

Out of the six injured, three were critically hurt and have been shifted to Burla Vimsar Hospital for specialized treatment. Their condition remains critical.

Ongoing Investigation

The police have yet to identify the deceased workers. Meanwhile, the trailer truck driver responsible for the accident fled the scene and remains at large. Police are currently conducting a search for him.
