Sambalpur: Trains Under Attack in Sambalpur; 3 Stone Pelting Incidents in 10 Days, Culprits Still at Large

Sambalpur: Sambalpur district is witnessing a worrying trend trains are being repeatedly targeted. In just the last 10 days, there have been three separate stone-throwing attacks on trains at different locations. As a result, one railway passenger was injured, while in two other cases, train windows were shattered.

First Incident: Tapaswini Express Hit

On May 17, unidentified miscreants threw stones at the Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express. The train had just left Rengali station in Sambalpur district and was heading toward Jharsuguda. Around 5:45 a.m., before reaching Lapanga station, stones struck the B-6 and B-7 coaches. Notably, the B-7 coach’s window glass was broken. Both the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Sambalpur Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched an investigation. However, since there are no residential areas nearby only some JSW company premises the police have struggled to identify who was behind the attack or why it happened.

Second Incident: Passenger Injured on Intercity Express

On May 24, around 11 p.m., the second stone-throwing incident took place. As the Puri-Sambalpur Intercity Express approached Sambalpur station, stones were thrown at passengers near a level crossing. One passenger suffered minor injuries. The GRP has registered a case and is actively investigating the matter.

Third Incident: Stones Thrown Near Talbhatapada

Just two days ago, the third incident happened at night near Talbhatapada, close to Sambalpur station. Stones hit the general coach of an incoming train. Fortunately, no passengers were hurt, but the window glass was damaged. The RPF has filed a case regarding this attack as well.

Police Under Pressure to Act

Despite these repeated attacks, the police have not yet managed to identify or arrest any suspects. As a result, public demand is growing for the police to uncover who is behind these stone-throwing incidents and bring them to justice.
