Two-Year-Old Boy Rescued from 20-Foot Borewell in Karnataka After 18-Hour Effort

A two-year-old boy who had fallen into a 20-foot open borewell in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district was rescued Thursday after an 18-hour effort by disaster response teams and local officials. Rescue teams comprised of SDRF and NDRF personnel were successful in extracting the child. A senior police officer stated that he was stuck at a depth of approximately 16 feet.

A two-year-old child was reported to have fallen into a borewell in Karnataka’s Lachayan village Vijayapura district on Wednesday. The work of rescuing the child from the borewell started yesterday evening at 6 p.m. and continues on Thursday.

According to police sources, a 2-year-old child namely Satwik Mujagond fell into a borewell while playing outside the house yesterday. Seeing the child falling into the borewell, the bystanders immediately informed the child’s mother and father.

On receiving the information, the revenue officials, members of taluk panchayat, fire brigade, and emergency services officials reached the spot and started all possible efforts to rescue the child safely. The oxygen tube was placed so the child would not have difficulty in breathing.

The child is believed to have fallen approximately 16 feet below. No sound was coming from the child inside the borewell. That’s why the child’s mother and father fainted from crying. Following the rescue, the medical team arrived on the scene fully prepared for immediate treatment of the child. The ambulance was also kept on standby.

Everyone present at the scene had one thing on their faces: ‘O God, Please save the child safely from this peril.’

Rescuers later successfully recovered him and confirmed his survival. Karnataka Minister MB Patil came to X to address the situation. He stated that he had authorized the Vijayapura district administration to operate at a “rapid pace” and hoped for the child’s safe reunification with his parents.
