Sambalpur: Vimsar Police Outpost in Dangerous Condition, Cement Plaster Falling from Ceiling; Despite Repeated Letters, No Repairs Made to Outpost Building

Sambalpur: Ironically, the police who work to ensure the safety of the public are themselves working in unsafe conditions. The Vimsar police outpost, located inside the Burla medical campus, is operating from a very old and weakened building.
During the rainy season, water leaks through the broken roof. As a result, ceiling panels and cement chunks often fall to the ground. This not only disrupts work but also puts the lives of officers at serious risk.
Repeated Complaints, No Action Yet
Although police authorities have sent several letters requesting building repairs or a new outpost, the medical authorities have not taken any significant steps. Instead, they only carry out temporary patchwork repairs, which don’t last for long. Soon after, the building returns to its damaged condition.

No Living Quarters for Staff
Besides the building’s poor condition, the outpost also lacks quarters for the staff. Currently, eight police personnel including one ASI, one havildar, and six constables, work from the building. Since there are no rooms to stay in, many of them are forced to sleep inside the office itself.
Family Separation, Long Commutes
Due to the lack of housing, officers cannot stay with their families. Some even come from far-off places and must live alone near the station. Others are forced to travel long distances daily. If proper quarters were built, police staff could stay nearby and provide 24/7 security without hardship.
Immediate Action Needed
There have been instances of police staff getting injured by falling ceilings. Therefore, it is urgent to either renovate the existing outpost completely or construct a new one along with living quarters. Since the land belongs to the medical campus, people are urging the medical authorities to act quickly and ensure safety for the police working there.
