Sambalpur: Vimsar’s Tiles Uproot, Patients at Risk; What’s Being Done to Protect Patients?

Sambalpur: The Vimsar premises have once again become a safety concern, with tiles uprooting in various areas, posing a serious risk to patients. Although no major accidents have occurred, patients and their families are anxious as they walk through the hospital corridors. However, the authorities at Vimsar appear to be ignoring these dangers.

Frequent Incidents Raise Alarms

The issues with Vimsar are not new. Previously, there were several incidents involving ceilings collapsing and concrete blocks falling on patients, causing serious injuries. Recently, several tiles in front of the Medicine Outpatient Department began to lift, leaving uneven surfaces. It started with a single tile, but now multiple tiles are broken, and the damage is increasing daily. Patients and their families frequently crowd this area, raising the risk of an accident. Many visitors, who are already concerned about their health, are tripping and falling.

Previous Accidents Highlight Ongoing Neglect

This problem is not unique. Water seepage has been reported in certain areas of the hospital, making the floors slippery and dangerous. Neglecting to address these issues could result in an accident. It’s worth noting that on July 21, a ceiling collapsed during a CT scan, narrowly missing the patient. Only two days later, another incident occurred in the kidney ward, when a concrete slab fell from the ceiling, injuring a patient who had come for kidney treatment. The patient suffered a head injury, and a relative who was with them was also injured.

These incidents highlight the ongoing neglect in ensuring patient safety on hospital premises. Immediate attention and repairs are required to avoid further accidents and maintain a safe environment for all at Vimsar.
