Viral Wedding Incident: Bride Cancels Wedding as Groom Fails to Recite Table of 2
It’s wedding season in India, and brides and grooms are looking for a compatible and understanding life partner. However, a recent instance in Mahoba district, Uttar Pradesh, has gone viral in which a bride refused to marry the groom because he was illiterate.
Honesty is a crucial aspect of any marriage, and this instance highlights the significance of being truthful from the beginning. According to sources, the marriage in Mahoba was planned on a lie: the groom’s family hid the fact that he was illiterate.
The bride, however, had a clever plan to uncover the truth about her would-be husband. According to media sources, the bride was suspicious of the groom’s educational abilities and decided to give him a simple ‘math test’ immediately before exchanging garlands.
The bride asked that the groom recite the table of two (a basic multiplication exercise). To everyone’s surprise, the groom failed this basic test, prompting the bride to call off the wedding immediately.
The bride’s cousin later explained their reason, saying, “We were surprised to discover that the groom was illiterate. His family had kept us in the dark regarding his educational background. He may not even have attended school. The groom’s family had cheated us. But my brave sister walked out without fearing social taboo.”
Initially, the police were not involved, as both families reached a compromise with the help of village elders. The deal involved returning all gifts and jewelry exchanged between the families.
