Sambalpur: Water Supply Pipe Burst near Kaveri Hotel Creates Artificial Flood on Road; Public Distressed, Administration Silent
Sambalpur: Near the Kaveri Hotel in Ainthapali, a drinking water supply pipe has burst, causing water to flow across the city streets like a canal. Despite the situation persisting for more than a week, neither the municipal authorities nor the responsible officials have taken action. This has resulted in significant water wastage and inconvenience for residents.
Escalating Damage from Pipe Burst
Initially, a small leak in the pipe was noticeable. However, the constant flow of water, combined with the weight of passing vehicles, widened the damage. The main pipeline carrying water from Bareipali Water Treatment Plant to Ainthapali is now severely affected. As the leak grows larger, dirty external water is seeping into the pipe, contaminating the drinking water supply.
Improper Installation Blamed
According to regulations, the pipeline should have been buried three feet deep. However, the contractor installed it poorly. Large pipes were buried just beneath the surface, making them susceptible to external pressure from vehicles. Despite being aware of the irregularities, authorities have remained silent.

Impact on Residents
Due to the leak, muddy water from the road is entering the main pipeline, eventually reaching residents’ homes and affecting their cooking and drinking water. The flow of water has also made the road muddy and slippery, causing issues for two-wheelers and four-wheelers alike.
Health Hazards and Future Risks
If the pipeline is not repaired immediately, the situation could worsen, leading to artificial flooding in the area. Furthermore, the contaminated water increases the risk of waterborne diseases like diarrhea, raising concerns about public health in the city.
Urgent Action Needed
Residents are demanding immediate repairs to the pipeline and stricter monitoring of contractors to ensure proper installation in the future. Without timely intervention, the city could face worsening conditions and significant health risks.
