The Return Journey
After a week-long stay at the Gundicha Temple, believed to be the birthplace of Lord Jagannath, the deities embark on their journey back. Devotees enthusiastically pull the splendidly decorated chariots of Lord Jagannath (Nandighosa), Lord Balabhadra (Taladhwaja), and Devi Subhadra (Darpadalana) through the streets during the Bahuda Yatra, signifying their love and reverence.

Rituals and Celebrations
The Bahuda Yatra begins with the ‘Pahandi’ ritual, where the deities are brought out of the Gundicha Temple and placed on their chariots. The ‘Chhera Pahanra’ ritual, performed by the royal descendant who sweeps the chariots, signifies humility and servitude before the divine. As the chariots make their way back to the Jagannath Temple, the air is filled with the sounds of hymns, drums, and conch shells, creating an atmosphere of spiritual ecstasy.
