When ‘Protectors’ Turn Perpetrators, Traffic Police Demanding Money

The police are friends of the people. Companion of happiness and sorrow. A partner who extends a helping hand in times of danger. Police are law enforcement. But if the police turn Perpetrators, then the matter is over. The ASI of Sindhekela police station in Balangir district had to defame the entire Police department for stealing goats and eating them.

A similar incident took place in Sambalpur today. On the way to the Sambalpur main hospital, a traffic policeman was seen demanding money. A traffic police officer on duty near Ainthapali police station area stopped the vehicles in the middle of the road and asked for money. Such a question arises again in the minds that Police is Protector or Perpetrators.

It is learned that a truck (RJ14GG-6211) arrived in Sambalpur today from Bhubaneswar with various medicines and prophylactic vaccines. At around 3 p.m. the six-wheeler entered the city through Ainthapali intersection. A traffic police officer on duty chased him and stopped him near the district hospital. The traffic police asked for money by saying heavy vehicles were not allowed inside the city. But the driver refused to pay because the truck was in a state of emergency. The anger of the traffic police is high and he threatened to seized the truck and put the driver in custody. The truck driver was scared.

He called Baldev Parabhui, a staff member at the district’s main hospital’s drug store, to report the incident. Baldev reached there and explained to the police personnel. The emergency medicine and vaccine are being transported to the district hospital ,he said. But the police officer was not understand anything. He directly refused to allow the vehicle to move forward without giving money. Upon hearing this, the hospital staff called the top officer. The heavy truck was stopped on the road for about 15 minutes due to which this busy road has serious traffic problems. Due to heavy traffic jams, the traffic police was forced to release the truck without getting any choice. It is alleged that this Traffic Police Officer was seen maximum times demanding money.

The district police chief needs to investigate and should take strict action in this matter.
