7-Year-Old Girl Raped and Murdered by Uncle While Parents Were Away Voting
Kuliana Police in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, have arrested a man named Rameswar Dehuri for allegedly molesting and killing his seven-year-old niece.
The girl and her family, who are from Binpur in West Bengal, were staying at the home of Parameswar Dehuri, who is Rameswar’s uncle, in Sankuldiha village for a few days. The girl and her parents had arrived on June 1. On that day, Parameswar and his wife went to a nearby government primary school to vote at around noon.
Around 3 pm, Rameswar took the girl to a nearby forest close to the Papala River, saying they would go bird hunting. Instead, Rameswar raped the girl and then strangled her to death. He left her body on the riverbank and went back home.
When the girl’s family came back in the afternoon, they couldn’t find her and started searching. They waited for some hours, but she still didn’t return. Some villagers told them that they had seen Dehuri taking her somewhere. The villagers questioned Rameswar, and he admitted to what he had done. The villagers and the girl’s parents then went to the riverbank, where they found her body. They told the Kuliana police about what had happened that evening.
The police went to the place, took the body, and sent it for a postmortem examination. Rameswar was arrested under sections 376 (AB) and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, according to Kuliana police station officer Priyadarshini Khatua.
