Sambalpur: Burla Eviction Drive Continues, Bulldozers were running in Burla despite the rain
Burla: The Burla Eviction Drive has reached its final stage. The drive was launched by Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation on the 11th of last month. Today in the seventh phase, 21 buildings and shops were demolished, according to the officer Shubhankar Mohanty. Mr. Mohanty said that only 3/4 of the buildings are left to be demolished except for the residential building between Market and Petrol Pump Street. From the 11th to the 23rd of last month, 183 buildings, walls, and shops were peacefully demolished by SMC from Gopbandhu Street through Lakshmipuja Street to Indira Street.
From the 7th to the 9th of this month, SMC’s bulldozers ran from Indira Street to Petrol Pump Street for three consecutive days. From Indira Street to Kaccha Market to Pakka Market, Petrol Pump Street, the busiest road, and during large building and shop was destroyed, causing much agitation.
However, amid controversy, SMC demolished 134 buildings on the fourth day, 96 buildings on the fifth day, and 25 buildings on the sixth day. Despite the rain, today, with the help of 2 bulldozers the Metropolitan Municipality, the encroachment was demolished. There was no agitation during the demolition.
There was a huge crowd of people to see the destruction of the house. Crowd control was becoming difficult for the police. Promotion Officer Mr. Mohanty further said that the demolition of shops near the food center in the Vimsar area from Gopbandhu Street through Bharati Club Street to Petrol Pump Street and from there to Netaji Street has been completed. In today’s eviction proceedings, which will be done as soon as possible, Additional District Magistrate Sushant Sahu is in charge of the Magistrate, SDO Shantanu Sahu, Burla Revenue Inspector Harisun Naik were present. Two platoons of police force along with Burla police station officer Anil Pradhan were present.
