IMD Forecasts Monsoon Arrival by May 31: Above-Average Rainfall Expected in Odisha
The weather is ideal for the South West Monsoon to arrive in Kerala. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the monsoon will hit India during the next four days, on May 31. And after June 15th, Odisha will experience the monsoon. Furthermore, the current monsoon season is expected to bring normal rainfall across the country. According to the IMD, monsoon rains will be below normal in the northeastern states between June and September, resulting in less than 94% of the usual rainfall. In North-West India, normal monsoon rainfall ranges from 92% to 108% of the average. However, Central and South India will receive more than normal rain, reaching more than 106% of the average.
According to the Monsoon projection, agricultural states are projected to receive above-average rainfall this season. Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, including Odisha, may get above-average rain. However, some portions of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra will see above-average rainfall throughout the monsoon season.
Monsoon rains will be common across the country in June. Considering the monsoon conditions between 1971 and 2020, the average June rainfall is 166.9 mm. Some portions of south and adjacent central India, as well as parts of north-west and north-east India, may receive more rain than usual. Some portions of the Northeast and South India, including the Northern and Eastern states, will have below-average rainfall. Most of the country will have average or above-normal maximum temperatures. Maximum temperatures will be lower than normal in various places in South India.
