Sambalpur: 11 Thefts in 8 Days; Masked Thieves Rule Sambalpur During Festive Season

Sambalpur: With the arrival of the festive season, Sambalpur has become more active, attracting both revelers and criminals. Thieves and robbers have begun operations, taking advantage of the absence of homeowners. They steal whenever they see an opportunity. Houses with hanging locks are particularly vulnerable, with thieves breaking in and taking valuables.

While theft and robbery are not new in Sambalpur, a concerning trend has emerged: masked thieves have been reported. For several days, mobile phones and bicycles have been stolen in various locations. Residents are now blaming the increased frequency of these incidents on a lack of night patrolling.

Increasing Theft Reports

According to reports, Sambalpur City has five major police stations. In the last week, 11 thefts and robberies have been reported in these areas. Four of these incidents occurred in the Ainthapali police station area, one in Bareipali, two in Dhanupali and Khetrajpur, and three in the Town police station jurisdiction. These cases are reported almost daily.

Masked Gangs On the Rise

Adding to the worry, there have been several reports of masked gangs operating in the city. A few days ago, a group of masked men robbed a house in Jagannath Colony, which is within the jurisdiction of the Ainthapali police station. CCTV footage captured the entire event. Similarly, masked intruders allegedly entered homes in the town area in the last two days.

Reduced Night Patrolling

During the last election, police conducted strict checks and frequent patrols throughout the city, significantly reducing theft and robbery. However, since the election, the lack of nighttime patrolling has resulted in an increase in such crimes.

In response to the current situation, a senior police officer stated that flag marches had been held over the previous two days to maintain peace and order during Durga Puja. Additionally, efforts are being made to strengthen night patrolling in order to reduce incidents of theft, robbery, and other illegal activities.

These safety measures are intended to protect the city during the holiday season and restore peace to the streets.
