Sambalpur: A case of ragging has surfaced at Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT). On Wednesday, the college hosted a ‘Freshers’ Day’ event. During this event, a third-year student was accused of forcing a first-year student to cut his beard.
Details of the Incident
Reports indicate that the first-year student had a beard, which caught the attention of the senior student. The third-year student allegedly told him to shave it off, and when the freshman refused, the senior threatened to cut it himself. Following a heated argument, the senior used a trimmer to forcibly shave the first-year student’s beard.

University Action and Investigation
After learning about the incident, the SUIIT Director informed the Registrar and Vice-Chancellor of Sambalpur University. Following an investigation, authorities found the third-year student guilty of misconduct. Consequently, the university suspended him for six months.
This suspension demonstrates the university’s strict stance against all forms of ragging, ensuring a safe environment for all students.
