Sambalpur: Strange Situation at District Headquarters Hospital in Sambalpur; Doctor Leaves Abandoning Patients, Patients in Distress
Sambalpur: A strange situation arose at the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) as doctors abandoned the outdoor OPD, leaving patients waiting helplessly. This incident happened in the evening, causing tension among the waiting patients and their families.
Patients Wait, But No Doctors Appear
According to reports, many patients had lined up in the evening to see the doctor. However, the scheduled doctor’s shift ended, and another doctor was supposed to take over. But due to some unknown reason, the next doctor did not arrive or got delayed. Shockingly, a female doctor who was present left her seat and disappeared instead of attending to the patients. Even though many patients were waiting, she left without seeing them.
Because of this, patients and their relatives had to wait outside for a long time. Rohit Lugun, a patient’s relative, expressed his frustration, saying, “We have been waiting for almost half an hour, but no doctor is here. Who will treat the patients? If this is the situation at the district hospital, what can we expect at other health centers?”

Efforts were made to contact the Medical ADM regarding the issue, but there was no response.
Poor Sanitation Inside the Hospital
At the same time, the hospital’s hygiene and cleanliness have severely deteriorated due to irregular cleaning, turning the premises into a dumping ground. The toilets and washrooms in the surgery ward remain unclean for days, spreading a strong foul smell throughout the hospital. In the pathology ward, the water purifier is completely damaged and unusable, yet no one is addressing the issue. Additionally, the blood bank area has become a breeding ground for insects due to the lack of proper cleaning, making the hospital environment even more unhygienic and unsafe for patients.
People Demand Immediate Action
As the hospital struggles with both staff negligence and poor hygiene, people are demanding immediate action. Despite these serious problems, the Sambalpur Chief Medical Officer has not yet responded.
