The American Odia psychologist Dr.Prasanna Pati Passed Away

Sambalpur: Prasanna Kumar’s Pati, a prominent American psychologist and veteran doctor, passed away at the age of 96 on Monday.Two days ago, her younger brother, journalist Devendra Narayan Pati, died. Dr. Prasanna’s Pati was a first batch student of Cuttack Medical College4 (now SSCB Medical College4) in Cuttack. He graduated from Patna University in 1922. He was fourth in Odisha. Although he was interested in studying art, he studied science at Ravensaw College on the advice of his teacher, as he was a good student. He was expelled from college that year along with 56 other students for leading the student protests during the Quit India Movement. But later, in a written apology, the chairman, Drs. Pranakrishna Parija allowed him to continue his studies. He completed his medical studies on the 14th and worked as a House Officer. From the $ 100 stipend he received, he sent $ 50 to his father to help with his younger brothers’ education. In 1951, an agreement was reached between the American and Indian Medical Associations to allow Indian students to do PG in the United States. Dr. Pati applied for a PG in neurology, but he found it difficult. In 1952, he sailed to the United States. There, he received his first appointment at a psychiatric hospital in Warren, Pennsylvania.

Since then, Dr Pati has never looked back. He lived in the United States for many years and lived there permanently. For a long time after his retirement, he was temporarily involved in patient care in various hospitals, writing, and engaging in various social activities. He also formed a society of expatriate Indians and interested Americans to discuss Hindu scriptures. He married three American nurses.
