Letter to the Governor from the West Odisha Bar Association, ‘Request for High Court Bench Full Proposal’
Sambalpur: Various lawyers’ associations in western Odisha have written to the Governor to direct the Odisha government to send a full-fledged proposal to the Center to set up a permanent bench of the Odisha High Court in Sambalpur. The Central Action Committee (CAC), comprising various bar associations in western Odisha, had earlier unanimously decided to set up a high court bench in Sambalpur. Despite repeated appeals, demands and agitations, the Odisha government has not sent the Full Proposal Center in consultation with the Chief Justice for the High Court Chief Justice. According to the law, the state government must provide the full scope of the proposed bench, its structure, the location of the bench, the availability of land, buildings and infrastructure, the funding for the bench, and the High Court in consultation with the Chief Justice. Therefore, the governor has been urged by various unions, including the Sambalpur Bar Association, to make such a proposal as soon as possible.
In this regard, the lawyers’ union has written to the governor asking for a full resolution. The letter called for a continuation of the High Court Bench Establishment Movement in Western Odisha and the progress of the government process. The CAC also issued a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Chief Justice urging them to submit a full-fledged and unanimous resolution on the issue of a permanent bench in Sambalpur.
