By securing a job at Microsoft with a staggering annual salary of Rs 64.61 lakh, an IIM Sambalpur student in Odisha broke a previous record.
Avni Malhotra, an IIM Sambalpur Post Graduate Programme (PGP) student, earned her dream job after passing five to six rounds of interviews for the position with Microsoft. She would be paid Rs 64,61060 year.
According to Avni’s old institution, Jaypee University of Engineering and Technology, persistence and hard work always pay off in the form of success, they posted her success story on Linkedin.
“We are pleased to announce that Ms. Avni Malhotra (CSE, 2018 passed out batch) just accepted the position of her dreams at Microsoft, demonstrating that persistence and hard effort always pay off in the form of success. Avni Malhotra received the highest pay of 64.61 lakhs two days ago from IIM Sambalpur. Her future endeavours are in our best wishes, the university remarked.
After graduating from JUET with a degree in computer science engineering in 2018, Avni, who is originally from Jaipur in Rajasthan, pursued a Post Graduate Programme (PGP) there. The MBA degree curriculum at IIM Sambalpur has replaced the two-year PGP.

In her Linkedin profile, she identified herself as the ‘incoming PM @ Microsoft’. According to her profile, she previously held positions at Infosys for 2.4 years as a system manager and for 9 months as a senior system manager.
For the MBA Batch 2021-23, IIM Sambalpur has reported 100% placement this year. Over 130 companies participated in the placement season, and the number of first-time recruiters increased by 56%.
“With a flawless record, the highest salary received this year is an amazing Rs 64.61 LPA, a startling 146.7% rise from the previous year. The average pay has increased by 26%, and the median salary has increased by 29%, according to the institution.
