Birth / death registration to be done under health department

Births / deaths will be registered under the Health Department. 430 units in the state are fully online. Previously, it was issued a birth / death certificate under the Department of Urban Development. Prior to the introduction of the system into the health department, there were 314 group health centers in the state, or CHHC (rural), which has now been expanded to an additional 116 urban units. As a result, people who were born or died at home, including in the hospital, registration will also be possible.
It is learned that the Odisha Birth and Death Registration System (OBDRS) has been developed for this purpose.

The state registers about 6 lakh births and about 3 lakhs deaths every year. Of these, fewer are online applications, while more are offline. With the online system, people can get both registration and certificates for free. If you register within 3 weeks of birth / death, there is no charge, and you will have to pay a later fee. Computers, printers and scanners have been provided in rural areas for better management of the system. One of the main purposes of the online birth / death registration system is to prevent counterfeit certificates. The Registrar General of India, or RGI, is also focusing on preventing these fake certificates. In the last few months, the state has received about 4 fake certificates, of which three have been revoked.

According to health officials, the online process is successful in preventing delay in the birth / death registration process. Similarly, people do not have to travel far to register for birth / death. People can get the information they need through their exact mobile number and e-mail ID. The health supervisor / staff, junior medical officer, will look for the cause of death of the person concerned to register the death at home. The local medical officer will be notified later. As a result, a medical certificate of death or MCCD can be obtained along with the registration of the deceased.
