Sambalpur: Crime Rate Rising Daily in Sambalpur; Gas Cylinder & TV Stolen from Senior Citizen’s Home, Police Inactivity Alleged

Crime Increasing in the City
Sambalpur: Sambalpur city is witnessing a steady rise in criminal activities. While the police remain inactive, thieves and criminals are becoming more and more active. Many youths are turning to crime, often to arrange money for addiction. Over the past few months, several cases of theft have been reported in the Ainthapali police limits.
Cylinder Thefts in Gopalmal and Shambhupada
Residents of Gopalmal, Shambhupada, and nearby areas have recently complained about a growing number of cooking gas cylinder thefts. On the night of May 31, a group of thieves broke into a senior citizen’s house and stole a filled gas cylinder and an LED TV. The house was locked as the owner was away, giving the thieves an opportunity to break in. They even tried to break open an almirah but failed. The police later seized an iron rod used by the thieves, which they had left behind during their escape. The homeowner has filed a complaint with the police today.
Criminal Gangs Growing Bold
According to the victim, theft cases in the area are increasing daily. The thieves conduct surveys during the day, and once they spot locked houses, they break in at night. Their main targets include gas cylinders, expensive items, and gold jewelry. After stealing the cylinders, they reportedly sell them to illegal cooking gas rackets.

Local Miscreants Suspected, Police Action Missing
There is strong suspicion that local anti-social elements are involved in these crimes. However, police action remains lacking. Most theft cases involving gas cylinders and household items do not get the police’s full attention, which has emboldened the criminals. This has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the police force.
Lack of Patrolling and Fear of Law
Residents have also alleged that the absence of strict patrolling and strong action against criminals has led to a loss of fear of the law among thieves. Because of this, they are operating freely and fearlessly in the area.
No Recovery in Major Cases
Though the Ainthapali police have caught a few criminals in some cases of loot, robbery, and theft, they have failed to recover most of the stolen goods especially gold, cash, and other valuables worth crores. Moreover, attempts to contact the local police officials for their comment on the matter were unsuccessful.
The rise in thefts and the inaction of the police in Sambalpur have become a serious concern for residents. They are demanding stricter patrolling and prompt action to restore law and order in the area.
