Sambalpur: Encroachment Identified in Mudipada, Action Taken Against Shopkeepers and Business Owners

Road Expansion from Laxmi Talkies Square to Railway Station Planned

Sambalpur: The road connecting Laxmi Talkies Chowk and Khetrajpur Railway Station in Sambalpur will be expanded. To help with this, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) and the Tehsil office have launched a campaign to identify encroachments. In the initial phase, both small shopkeepers and large business owners were discovered to have encroached on government land, narrowing the road.

The authorities have issued warnings to all involved to remove the encroachments. SMC’s Enforcement Officer, Sushant Sahu, stated that if the encroachments are not removed within three days, they will be forcibly removed.

Traffic Woes Prompt Action

The stretch from Farm Road to the Railway Station faces significant traffic issues, especially during peak hours, such as 10 a.m. and in the evening. The narrow roads make it difficult for people to commute. Even though the nearby community center offers parking, events held there often lead to cars being parked on the street, worsening the situation. Taking these issues into account, the Public Works Department (PWD) has planned the road expansion.

Encroachment Identified in Mudipada

A 300-meter section of government land between Radhanath Community Center and Jagannath Temple in Mudipada was surveyed today. The team discovered several encroachments along the way. Some of the nine shopkeepers found encroaching are poor and have no other locations for their businesses. Others have rented out shops built on government land.

In addition, measurements revealed that a well-known businessman’s property partially encroached on the government road. The authorities also discovered that certain contractors had built temporary structures along the road. The encroachment identification team has taken note of this.

Future Steps and Demands

SMC has announced that they will continue to identify encroachments in other areas of Mudipada starting tomorrow, and that the encroachments will be demolished in the coming days. There is a demand for the government to provide alternative locations for the poor shopkeepers who will be displaced as a result of the removal of the encroachment.
