Sambalpur: Excise Department Seizes Rs.12 Lakh Worth of Brown Sugar, Arrests 2 Suspects in Sunapali
Sambalpur: In a major crackdown, the Sambalpur Excise Department seized 120 grams of brown sugar worth ₹12 lahks from the Sunapali area under Dhanupali police station. Along with the contraband, authorities seized a vehicle and arrested two people involved in the illegal trade.
Brown Sugar Trafficking Exposed
The Excise Department learned that brown sugar was being smuggled into Sambalpur from Kolkata via the Samaleswari Express after receiving a tip. The department quickly devised a strategy to apprehend the traffickers at Sambalpur Station. However, the suspects evaded capture and slipped away near Rengali station, abandoning their original escape route.

Arrest Near Sunapali
The accused then attempted to reach their home in Sunapali by scooter. Unbeknownst to them, another team from the Excise Department was already waiting. As the suspects approached their home, the team apprehended them and found 120 grams of brown sugar in their possession.
Two Arrested: Nasim and Samal
Police took Mohammad Nasim, 39, of Sunapali, and Binod Samal, 31, of Gengutipali, into custody. Nasim is already facing multiple charges. After their court appearance, the court remanded both Nasim and Samal to judicial custody.
