Facebook and Instagram Experienced Massive Outages in Several Countries

In a major global outage, Meta-owned social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, faced disruptions, leaving users in India and other several countries unable to access their accounts. The widespread issue caused users to report problems, with the hashtags “Facebook Down” and “Instagram Down” trending on social media.

The outage peaked at 8:59 PM, with Downdetector collecting more than 15,000 reports. Approximately 77% of users reported problems with the programs, while 21% had issues with the website. At 9:05 p.m., Instagram had a large outage, with over 32,000 users reporting problems. Around 72% reported problems with the application, while more than 20% had login troubles.

Meta’s communication team, represented by Andy Stones, acknowledged the situation, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.” The outage lasted around an hour, and services like Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger were restored.

During the outage, users on platform X turned it into meme chaos, posting humorous posts and expressing their concerns over Facebook’s service disruption.

Notably, the disruption was not restricted to India; customers in several other countries – the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Brazil also experienced massive disruptions. Downdetector received over 50,000 reports of Facebook and Instagram outages, as well as over 30,000 reports for Messenger.

According to the most recent report, Meta’s services, which include Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, are back online after an hour-long outage.
