First in Odisha: Dibyaraj Beriha, a young farmer set an example by cultivating Kashmiri Keshar (Saffron) in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: Dibyaraj Beriha, a young farmer from Sambalpur, who has set an example for others by cultivating black paddy, black wheat, black pepper, black ginger, strawberry, bioflox fish, goat, chicken, organic vegetables, snails for free, is added a new chapter to applied agriculture with another successful application.
For the first time in Odisha, he has produced valuable Kashmiri kesar (Saffron). Dibyaraj has grown Saffron in a completely scientific manner at his farm house laboratory in Sambalpur city’s Khadwal and on Sunday it blossomed.
Dibyaraj, a young farmer and botanist, bought Keshar seeds from Anantnag in Kashmir and cultivated them aeroponically in the laboratory on last September 10. In the laboratory, he created the same temperature and humidity conditions as the weather in Kashmir. He arranged lights like 12-hour lamps. This crop was planted in 10 thousand sterility and reaped on 24th of September. About 2 months later, that is, on November 20, the flower has bloomed. Kashmiri Kesar will be collected from this flower, the market price of which is Rs 500 per gram Dibyaraj said that this year he spent about 50,000 rupees on an experimental basis, but he will earn one and a half lakh rupees from it. He said that next year he will produce it in a commercial manner and train interested farmers for it. He informed that it will produce more times in the laboratory and produce good quality kesar.
