Know Why ED Arrested Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal? What is Liquor Scam?
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) because they suspected him of being involved in a scam related to the sale of liquor. The arrest followed searches at his official residence and nearly two hours of questioning by the ED. The ED believes that Kejriwal and some other leaders of his party, AAP, received a large amount of money illegally in connection with the government’s liquor policy. This policy was later canceled.
The claim is that Kejriwal and AAP leaders favored some businessmen in allocating alcohol-selling zones in Delhi in exchange for kickback payments. These businessmen allegedly gained significant profits from the new alcohol policy, and a percentage of those profits were allegedly given back to Kejriwal and other AAP leaders as bribes.
Notably, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are already in judicial custody in connection with the same case.
Before his arrest, Kejriwal had ignored several summons from the ED, arguing that they were unfair and politically motivated. However, the ED persisted in its investigation and eventually arrested him, along with other AAP members already in custody.
