Sambalpur: New Rule for Landlords in Burla; Homeowners Must Submit Tenant Information to Police

Strict Checks on Tenant Verification

Sambalpur: In Burla, police have launched a strict tenant verification drive. From now on, no one will be allowed to rent out their house without proper documentation. Every tenant must provide valid proof of permanent residence, which police will thoroughly verify. This move aims to curb criminal activities in the town.

Landlords Must Submit Documents to Police

Landlords are instructed to not only keep records of their tenants but also submit copies to the nearest police station. This information campaign was widely publicized across the town on Tuesday using loudspeakers. Authorities warned that landlords who fail to comply will face legal action.

Government Quarters Rented Out Illegally

According to reports, there are two kinds of landlords in Burla. Some have built houses on their own land and rent out parts while living in the same property. However, others often influential individuals have illegally occupied government quarters and are earning significant rent from them. Once landlords submit tenant documents, the real location of these houses will be revealed, and those renting out government properties will be exposed.

Suspicion Around Non-Cooperating Landlords

Authorities believe that people who have illegally occupied government quarters may hesitate to cooperate with police. Much of Burla’s land, especially in key areas, belongs to the Water Resources Department, which has built quarters for its officers and staff. Some properties are also under the Public Works Department (PWD). After the PWD’s division office moved to Bargarh, many quarters were left vacant. Influential individuals took advantage of this and occupied them.

Multiple Quarters Held by a Few People

Reliable sources say that some individuals are controlling multiple government quarters and renting them out for profit. With police now checking tenant records, these illegal arrangements may soon come to light.
