Sambalpur: Pollution Control Board Issues Show Cause Notice to 3 Major Hotels in Sambalpur; Violation of Hotel Wastewater Management Regulations

Violation of Pollution Rules

Sambalpur: The Pollution Control Board has issued show-cause notices to three hotels in Sambalpur for violating pollution control norms. The hotels are:

  • Sai Krupa in Bhutapada,
  • Sujata Hotel on Veer Surendra Sai Road, and
  • Royal Inn.

Failure to Use Sewage Treatment System

According to the notice, all three hotels were required to treat their wastewater using a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). During a recent meeting with hotel owners, they had agreed to use the STP system. However, despite the agreement, they have not connected their wastewater outlets to the STP. Instead, they are allegedly releasing untreated water directly into public drains.

Action Taken Based on Committee Observations

As a result of this violation, the Pollution Control Board has taken action and issued formal notices to these hotels. Moreover, a few days ago, the first district-level meeting of the District Environmental Monitoring Committee (DLEMC) was held. During this meeting, it was found that around 20% of the hotels in the district do not have the necessary pollution clearance certificates.

Further Steps to Be Taken

Consequently, the committee has decided to take appropriate action against these non-compliant hotels.
