Sambalpur: Pride of Sambalpur; Charulatha Kar Appointed as RBI Executive Director
Sambalpur: Yesterday, Charulatha Kar, a native of Sambalpur, took charge as the Executive Director (ED) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Before this, she served as the General Manager in the Human Resources Department of the RBI. With three decades of experience in payment and settlement systems, information technology, government banking, internal accounts, and human resource management, she has represented the RBI in various internal and external committees, including the BIS Working Group.

As the Executive Director, Mrs. Kar will now oversee the Communications Department, Human Resource Management Department, and the First Appellate Authority under the Right to Information Act. She is the daughter-in-law of the late Balakrishna Kar, an eminent educator from Sambalpur, and the wife of Dr. Sushant Kar, a retired Principal Chief General Manager of the RBI.
Charulatha Kar joined the RBI in 1991 at its Ahmedabad office. Throughout her 32-year career at the RBI, she has excelled in banking, training, and human resources departments.
Mrs. Kar has completed her Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Mumbai University and holds a diploma in Treasury and Forex Management. She is a certified associate of IIBF. Along with Mrs. Kar, Arnab Kumar Chowdhury has also been appointed as Executive Director of the Reserve Bank.
