Sambalpur: Beware of false bogus refund claims, Income Tax Department warns, action will be taken later
Sambalpur: Various taxpayers, especially salaried taxpayers, have resorted to the unethical practice of claiming bogus refunds. Many salaried taxpayers claim bogus relief on various grounds, even though they are not eligible or entitled to it which has now come under the scanner of the Income Tax Department. The Income Tax Department has started re-examination of the returns claiming more than Rs 50,000 in the initial phase of many salaried employees whose deductions or exemptions claimed in their income tax returns do not match with their Form No. 16/Form 26S issued by their DND. On the other hand, crores of rupees have been returned to the bogus.
