Sambalpur: Chhattisgarh has accused of violating the protocol related to the Mahanadi water dispute
Sambalpur: Chhattisgarh has accused of violating the protocol related to Odisha Mahanadi water dispute. Objecting to the reports published in Odisha newspapers, the Chhattisgarh government said that the reports based on the notification of the highest officials of Odisha are against the protocol followed by both the states. 17 or 20 gates of Chhattisgarh Kalma barrage have been opened and the top engineer has not fixed it by reporting in the media.
Chhattisgarh has alleged that issuing such a press release from the office of a top official like a top engineer while the case is pending before the tribunal is a direct violation of protocol. Chhattisgarh has said that the water absorption capacity of Hirakud reservoir is more than the water absorption capacity of all the reservoirs of the river basin. That is why Odisha’s complaints about water quality are baseless.
The Odisha river basin has a multifaceted system of water conservation. However, Chhattisgarh uses its own water by storing water. Efforts are made to conserve every drop of water in Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh has only focused on rainwater harvesting through its own instream check dams and barrages. Apart from this, various schemes have been planned to increase the groundwater level, which directly benefits Odisha. Because after using the underground water, it is removed to the river and its tributaries, which are carried to Odisha. Separate satellite images taken on April 25th, 2022 and 2022 April 25th this year show no difference in the river flow in the Hirakud Basin.
