Sambalpur: Sambalpur, City and Hirakud Stations to Get New Look Under Amrit Station Scheme; Sambalpur City Station to Undergo Transformation at Cost of Rs 23.76 Crore

Sambalpur: As part of the Indian Railways’ Amrit Station Scheme, Western Odisha’s key railway stations are set to be revamped and modernized. The main aim is to improve passenger experience with modern facilities and to boost local economic development.

Modern Facilities to Enhance Passenger Experience

Under this plan, selected stations in Western Odisha will be fully upgraded in structure, technology, and services. Key improvements include modern platforms, efficient ticketing, cleaner premises, and comfortable waiting areas. Passengers will enjoy smoother access with new foot overbridges, lifts, and escalators. The stations will also become more accessible for seniors, children, and people with disabilities. Moreover, eco-friendly designs will feature water-saving systems, waste management, and green materials. To boost convenience, new drop-in/drop-out lanes and larger parking spaces will be added.

Sambalpur City Station Revamp: Rs. 23.76 Crore Project

Modernization at Sambalpur City station has begun at an estimated cost of Rs. 23.76 crore. Key upgrades include a beautified station building, a 12-meter-wide foot overbridge, improved platform surfaces, two passenger lifts, and ten new bay-sheds on platforms 1, 2, and 3. The station will also have better signage and upgraded, accessible toilets.

Hirakud Station Upgrade: Rs. 22.87 Crore Plan

Authorities will upgrade Hirakud station significantly with a Rs. 22.87 crore budget. They will beautify the main station building and build a 12-meter-wide foot overbridge to improve passenger movement. They will install new lifts and construct twelve additional platform sheds across platforms 1, 2, and 3 to enhance convenience. They will also equip the station with modern signage and coach display boards, and improve accessibility features and toilet facilities to ensure all passengers enjoy a more inclusive and comfortable experience.

Other Stations Under Planning Stage

Stations like Jharsuguda, Himagiri, Rourkela, and Sambalpur (main) are in the planning stage, with approvals, consultant appointments, and design revisions in progress. After receiving approval, authorities will modernize these stations with new entry points, wider foot overbridges, improved platform sheds, expanded waiting areas, lifts, escalators, modern signage, upgraded toilets, better water and sewage systems, and organized parking to enhance passenger convenience.

Overall, the revamp of key railway stations in Western Odisha promises world-class facilities, better travel comfort, and sustainable infrastructure for passengers and the local community.
